ROMANCING THE LIGHT BY KHARU

ROMANCING THE LIGHT BY KHARU

Had dinner with Manuel Librodo, a Master Photographer in Natural Light, last night with Kharu a freelance model and a stylist in Manila.

If you have not seen Librodo's work yet visit his site at Pbase and you will be amazed on how he turns his photo into a work of art.

Kharu is very famous around Photographers in Manila and some parts of Asia. If you have come accross photographer's that has worked wih Manny, most likely Kharu's name will pop up.

Kharu is a mix Spanish Filipina ( I know there is one more just cant remember) that works closely with Manny. I have always wondered why she was sought of by Filipino Photographers attending Manny's Workshop. Now I know. After dinner we decided to do some snapshots at Two International Finance Center in Hong Kong. It got me excited as Kharu started doing her graceful poses and this was just for fun. You'll totally get blown away by her beauty and grace. I would really love to work with her soon hopefully and I was so lucky to take a couple of shots of her.

For lighting on the photo above: Two 580 EX II on ETTL triggered by another 580 EX II on Cam with ring light adabper at +1/3 for fill.

Solution for Elinchrom Ranger Quadra and Wescott Diffusers

Solution for Elinchrom Ranger Quadra and Wescott Diffusers

Joanne's Make Up and Beauty Shoot

I took this photo at home last night using 3 580 EX II   one at the background with honey comb greed and blue gell at 1/4 power lighting the grey background  paper and at the front I used 580 eX  II one on top using Wescott shoot through umbrella (top) at 1/2 power and at the bottom using Wescott shoot through umbrella at 1/4 power.  All flashes triggered by another 580 EX II set on manual mode.   Here is the photo of the lighting set up.

Michelle Kiana and Cullen Copland - Family Session at Parkview Hong Kong

his shoot has been planned since December last year when I met Michelle through Boyet and Dina.    The weather during the shoot was awful.  It was so humid and the surrounding area where we planned to  shoot was too foggy.  Michelle was so worried that we might not be able to get some great photos and Kiana, the daughter, was also not feeling well one or two days before the shoot.

Just to be safe I decided to take some photos inside the house and after an hour or so we went out and tried to do some  outside portraits.   Here are some of the photos for preview.

For this photo I used the large window light as the main light camera left and added a reflector on cam right as a fill light.

For this photo I used Elinchrom Ranger Quadra  with bare reflector.  I used the scrim on the round silver reflector and let the light pass through the scim to make it a big soft light source just above cam right.

If I did not use any filter for the light the shadows would become to edgy and hard.

This is a very simple lighting set up.  I used 580 EX II on a 45" Wescott shoot through umbrella camera left and a silver reflector just below the subject as fill light.  The off camera flash was triggered by another 580 Ex II on camera on ETTL mode and I think I was shooting on AV mode on my Canon 5D Mark II.
